My name is Karina Puente and I am a Mexican-American artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. My fine art paintings, charcoal drawings, and modern Papel Picado installations reflect the Mexican cultural heritage of the Santa Ynez Valley where I grew up. My large-scale art installations have appeared in weddings, galleries, and museums across the country.

My work has been exhibited in the Corcoran National Gallery, Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn New York, Columbia University, Miami MoCA, Elverhoj Museum of History and Art, the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Studios at Mass MoCA.

I hand dye my work on my kitchen stove, watercolor at my table, and cut patterns in my home studio. My great, great grandmother was a seamstress by trade. People brought her clothes to mend; she also sewed her own designs for Indigenous communities. She toggled the border between Mexico and Texas hand-delivering her work to clients. Working from home, heart, and by hand is my way of honoring her legacy while deepening connection to my audience.
